Nothing if not eclectic, the Tony Swain-curated night at BALTIC 39 on Friday 8th May promises to keep music and art fans on their toes throughout. Taking place to coincide with his current exhibition at BALTIC, Swain is an artist who literally makes headlines with his collage-style representations of newsprint, to which he adds layers of acrylic paint to present amalgamated realities of modern life. The Irish-born Glasgow School of Art graduate brings his National Bedtime musical project to headline a night featuring similarly diverse entertainment.

Featuring performances from fellow Glaswegian artists Neil Bickerton and Lauren Hall, they’re also joined by Jam Money, a collaborative project which uses a mixture of found and collected instruments alongside traditional guitars. Their live performance will create improvised renditions of original recordings from their debut record, Blowing Stones. Local innovators Mariam Rezaei, Rhodri Davies and Shelley Knotts will perform a new creation featuring laptop, electric harp and turntables, especially for the event.

The evening will culminate in a performance from Swain’s National Bedtime, whose eloquent instrumental swathes cross genres as broad as country and lounge to jazz and experimental electronica.
