Reliably informed

Love, betrayal and fantasy are common themes embedded within a variety of cultural works, from art to literature. Perhaps you’ve never quite seen it presented like in Natasha Caruana’s photographs. The work of the London based artist has seen her win the BMW Artist In Residence Award 2014 at the musee Nicephone Niepce in France and become a Senior Lecturer in Photography at the University for the Creative Arts in Surrey. Her photographs are buried within deep research into the nature of the three major themes and, particularly, how modern technology is impacting on our relationships.

In her work Married Man, Caruana explored life and love of the everyday, while more recently Fairytale For Sale saw her examining the strange ritual of newlyweds blocking out their faces in online adverts. In partnership with the North East Photography Network, Caruana will be heading to Sunderland’s Independent to talk about these and other works, as well as the general themes that underpin her art, in an evening that’s set to be a fascinating insight into the photographer and wider society.

Natasha Caruana will be talking at Independent, Sunderland on Thursday 15th October.
