Our 10th birthday issue is nearing completion, so we thought it only right to remind you about a couple of the amazing gigs we’re putting on to celebrate our milestone!

First up, on Friday 8th April at Pop Recs Ltd. in Sunderland, a trio of hotly tipped acts will perform for your delectation.

A Festival, A Parade
The alt. rockers have been ticking all the right boxes this year already; taking their time to create an EP that’s been eagerly anticipated, playing some seriously revered local gigs, and generally being one of the region’s biggest ‘buzz’ bands. Their sublime guitar-fuelled noisy indie rock is the perfect headline act!

Rhys Patterson
Sunderland’s Rhys Patterson’s stint with weird-pop purveyors SLUG definitely taught him a thing or two; namely, how to write meticulously crafted and utterly beguiling songs. Sharing little of his previous band’s sound, Patterson’s material is full of subdued, harmony-drenched vignettes, echoing some of Field Music’s lush quirks. This gig with a full band will showcase some serious talent, miss it at your peril.

Cape Cub
Having recently caught the ear of BBC Radio 1 and with a UK tour in the pipeline, Newcastle’s Cape Cub are certain to be on the lips of everyone in the know this year. Their sumptuous and minimal glacial-tinged pop will send chills down your spine!

Tickets for the Pop Recs gig are £5 and it’s payable on the door. Don’t miss out, it’ll be a corker!

Continuing our 10th anniversary celebratory events at Northern Stage in Newcastle on Friday 15th April, we’re proud to offer up a line-up of musical and visual collaboration, featuring three of the most innovative and exciting acts in the region who will showcase their eclectic sounds, backed by unique visuals and a few surprises along the way…

Young Liar
The post-rock instrumentalists’ heady mix of electronics and loud, euphoric guitars lends itself to a startling live show full of energy and fervour. With new material in the pipeline, Young Liar will demonstrate just why they’re one of the region’s most talked about bands.

Kingsley Chapman & The Murder
Epic soundscapes with thrillingly dark atmospherics, Kingsley Chapman & The Murder’s sound is at once ambitious and quietly alluring. Expect lush instrumentation, powerful melodies and an angst-filled drama that’s certain to captivate.

Transfigure
The Newcastle-based duo provide a heady mix of old-school synth pop melodies with a taste for house beats and dark glamour. Their minimal electronic style and intense performance is utterly mesmerising.

iCoda will provide unique live visuals working in collaboration with the artists.

Tickets costing £8 adv / £10 otd are available from Northern Stage

There’s even more to come over the next couple of weeks too, so stay tuned!
