With a distinctly retro sound, an EP release on cassette is perfectly befitting of Nano Kino, the band themselves honing a delightful sound that harks back to dancefloors of the 1980s filled with delicate yet dark electro pop. The four track collection, Surfing On The Void is released Friday 29th April on cassette and available for download.

Delivering all of the hypnotic, entrancing twinkling pop that they’ve done so well in their short time as a group, Sarah Suri and Duncan Lloyd (of Maximo Park fame) show an immense gift as ever evolving songwriters, with a real knack for atmospheric instrumentals beneath sumptuous melodies. Joined by Andy Martin on bass and Tom English on drums, it’s a formidable quartet who deliver a real journey through four beguiling songs. The eponymous opening track Surfing On The Void is perhaps the stand-out, a shimmering pop song which serves as a way for Sarah Suri’s bewitching voice to twinkle away over some wonderful musicianship. Knowing how to deliver a catchy chorus is a real skill, which is evident on second track The Wilds, and makes the drift into something a little slower and darker for latter two tracks Hiver and New Love all the more satisfying; the final song closing out with an ethereal twist.

The first 10 cassettes will come with a handmade Tin Type by Andy Martin in a clear box with clear cassette and vinyl lettering. There’s very limited run of blue and pink cassettes with a hand printed cyanotype sleeve, and the EP will also be available to download through their bandcamp page here. You can also catch Nano Kino as they play one of NARC’s 1oth Birthday shows taking place at The Green Rooms & The Georgian Theatre in Stockton on Friday 6th May, more information can be found here.
