Creation Records maverick Alan McGee’s Musicians Against Homelessness cause is heading to the North East to help raise awareness and money for Crisis. The cause is one that is close to McGee’s heart, for he had to sleep rough at one point in his life before his fortunes changed. Indeed, homelessness continues to affect hundreds of people in the North East, with the amount of people living rough in the region increasing by 40% in 2015 alone.
Musicians Against Homelessness have rallied together some of the region’s finest talent, with gigs taking place across the region. Kicking things off at The Tavern in Blyth on Friday 23rd September are Velvoir, Almighty Uprisers, The Middens and Indigo Skyfold; Saturday 24th sees The Lake Poets, Lilliput, The Middens and Tom Smith play Tynemouth Surf Café; also in Tynemouth at Porters Coffee House on Friday 30th, Phil Caffrey, Olivia Devine, Aaron Duff, Jenny Lascelles and Rivers & Satellites perform. Going into October, Mouses are the house band at TSOne in Middlesbrough on Sunday 2nd, alongside The Middens, Fleckt Pets and Idle Violets; The Exchange in North Shields sees The Juggernaut Love Band, 70’s Cop Show and Shinobi Fantobi take to the stage on Friday 7th; while Saturday 8th sees The Studio in Hartlepool serenaded by The Endeavours, Abel Raise The Cain, The Sunlit Shakers, Under The Influence and Danny Devon. The final event, on Sunday 9th October at Alphabetti Theatre, features Velvoir, Smoking Coconuts, Big Figure and Garage Flowers, with special acoustic afternoon sets from Soham De, Dox Doherty, Nearly Dennis, Nic Wood and Hassle.
