Many grand ideas start with something small; it was while working as an apprentice at Teesside uber-promoters Ten Feet Tall in 2016 that Adam Gallagher began a project of his own called Famous Last Words. Since then, FLW has “snowballed”, as he puts it. “Since managing a one-off charity gig for Alzheimer’s Society, this is when my passion and infatuation for managing music events was ignited. There is nothing quite like watching a band play to a room full of people that are enjoying themselves and knowing you have contributed to creating that.”

From the start it was clear that Adam had the ambition and work ethic to make FML successful. Having put on shows across the region for the likes of Glass Peaks, Dead Naked Hippies, The Pale White and NARCS, last year he hit one of his “progression milestones”, and launched an all-day music festival called MUNRO. “MUNRO was named after a Pigeon Detectives song but I later discovered that it’s the name of a collection of mountains in Scotland. As cheesy as this may sound, I believe that the journey a promoter embarks on resembles climbing a mountain; slowly working your way up, with difficulties along the way. Mind you, I’ve only ever climbed Roseberry Topping so what do I know?”

Having a finger on the pulse is an essential skill for any promoter; always on the look-out for hard working bands, both touring and in the North East, he books on a balance of instinct and proven track record. The line-up for the next instalment of MUNRO, taking place at Stockton’s Georgian Theatre and Green Room on Saturday 9th November, features a healthy mixture of up and coming talent and acts with ‘your new favourite band’ stamped all over them. Heading up proceedings are Lancashire’s indie pop band The Lottery Winners, riotous Glaswegians Voodoos, indie rockers Basement Club, hotly tipped Scottish rock band The Lutras and the excellently named new wave popsters Walt Disco, with ample local talent including St. Buryan, Neon Waves, Tom Mouse Smith, Club Paradise, Sleeptape, Heather Story and Plaza.
