After celebrating acclaimed producer, artist and oblique strategy boffin Brian Eno throughout Eno-vember and presenting a 1977-themed Punktober edition, Mr Drayton is bringing his record player to Sunderland’s Pop Recs Ltd on Thursday 7th December for a special, Wearside-based edition of his Singles Club. With the City of Culture judges having recently stopped by, there seems like no finer time to celebrate the city’s music; Mr Drayton and eight pop-tacular advocates of Mackem music will be selecting the best tune produced on Wearside among a host of Sunderland’s 7” singles from across the decades.

On the night, the singles will be spun and guests will give their ten cents on each one. At the end of the night, everyone will get to vote for their favourite, with the eventual winner walking away triumphantly with the coveted trophy and – wait for it – five whole English pounds. Expect some fierce competition as Sunderland’s finest are set to battle it out for bragging rights. Will the winner be post-punks Toy Dolls or Kenickie, or perhaps The Futureheads or Field Music? There’s everything to play for.
