Fans of punishing doomy sounds will find much to love at The Cluny on Friday 8th May, thanks to Hampshire’s Moss, who grace the venue with their horror-influenced doom metal. The band’s preoccupation with the esoteric and their brand of weighty doom combine to create a brooding aural assault. Since their inception in 2000 they’ve managed an impressive release schedule, and support slots with the likes of Sunn O))) and Electric Wizard have cemented their reputation as a highlight of the genre. Influenced by HP Lovecraft and the occult, their music is both otherworldly and oddly freeing, thanks to an expansive depth that make the three-piece a much-loved act on the UK’s doom metal circuit.

The band are ably assisted on the night by local purveyors of ear-punishing heaviness Bong, who release their fifth album this month; their mesmeric drone is a thing of weighty beauty. Sunderland’s Neolithic also get in on the action, bringing their doom-laden drone and tortured vocals to the party.

Moss, Bong and Neolithic play The Cluny, Newcastle on Friday 8th May.
