It’s the end of the summer and the long, cold nights have already started to draw in and herald the coming of winter (no Game of Thrones jokes please). Down at the Boiler Shop Steamer, though, it’s always a party, where everyone’s up for some good music, good grub and overall good times. To welcome autumn in, we’ve got four eclectic bands lined up that are sure to tantalise your tastebuds as much as the delectable street food offerings.

Headlining this month’s event are stunning electro-folk wonders Monster Ceilidh Band, bringing their latest album Charge to the Steamer. The LP is a quirky but amazingly catchy and fun mix of electronic dance music and traditional folk – if it sounds a bit odd, we guarantee you’ll be converted after a barnstorming hour long set. Bringing a slightly more esoteric atmosphere to the event are the Lindsay Hannon Plus, whose roots in improvisational jazz and influences as wide as blues and ballads, they’re a quartet with a difference and always go down a storm at the event. Making an appearance before their listening party at the NewBridge Project are alternative R’n’B trio SoShe, who’ll be playing tunes from their well received Volume One EP and airing tracks from Volume Two. Expect them to be in a party mood on a momentous day for the group. Playing in the afternoon are the always wonderful Iceni, playing their perfectly crafted pop songs that are guaranteed to get stuck in your head for days to come.

As usual, there will also be a side order of great food, with your usual hosts Riley’s Fish Shack, Wylam Brewery and the Cumberland Arms being joined by some of the best street food outlets around. If you’re mourning the loss of summer, there’s no better way to inject a bit of cheer.

Monster Ceilidh Band, Lindsay Hannon Plus, SoShe and Iceni play at the Boiler Shop Steamer, Newcastle on Saturday 5th September.
