In recent years, Modest Mouse have had a slightly troubled relationship with the North East. Their show at the Academy in 2010 was warmly received, but their cancellation of a sold out date at Sage Gateshead in 2013 to work on their long-delayed sixth album left a black mark by their name for many of the region’s music fans.

At last though, Isaac Brock and his band finally released Strangers To Ourselves earlier this year; another suitably sprawling work that attempts to split the difference between the noisy, existentialist rock of their celebrated early work and the more polished breakthroughs of their major label years. Eight years in the making might have led to some seriously raised expectations from some fans, but repeat listens reveal a depth of touching, intelligent and idiosyncratic highlights like Pups To Dust, Be Brave and The Best Room that could only be the work of one band.

Making further amends then, the band return to the main room of O2 Academy on Thursday 9th July as part of their world tour in support of Strangers to Ourselves: and this time, they come with a promise not to keep everyone waiting so long for the next instalment.
