It’s not uncommon to hear music fans moaning about the state of rock ‘n’ roll, in particular, that it lacks the raw energy of the past. If only there was a band who could capture the essence and grit of proto-punk and unleash it in our live music venues… Well, this Friday, Teesside promoter Into Tomorrow might be able to address these concerns when they bring Imminham’s finest, Ming City Rockers to The Green Room, Stockton on Friday 30th August.

The band’s influences are very much rooted in the CBGB’s scene of early-mid 1970’s New York and take influence from the likes of The MC5, New York Dolls, The Stooges, The Ramones and The Cramps. That said, they are no pastiche. The four-piece garage punk outfit instead capture the spirit of the times and, using the power of three chords, bring it right up to date.

Their last album, Lemon, produced by the legendary Steve Albini (Pixies, Wedding Present, Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, PJ Harvey, Nirvana, Iggy & The Stooges) received rave reviews and this summer saw them touring Europe to spread their musical mayhem. They are now back in the UK and ready to put a smile on the faces of many a disgruntled rock fan. Make sure you are one of them.

Advance tickets are £7 and support comes from bluesy, garage rockers Oilbirds and a DJ set from Radar Sounds International.
