Reliably informed

Formed in the early 1990s by a group of punk-loving indie popsters led by Pete Dale, Milky Wimpshake have gone through a few line-up changes in recent years, with new member Sophie Evans (also a member of Glasgow’s Life Model) not even born when the band first started. The band release their new album on 6th April and head out on tour with Durham’s favourite DIY pop punkers Martha, heading to Durham’s Empty Shop on Sunday 19th April.

Chock full of idiosyncratic indie punk, Pete Dale’s honest wit is on sharp form on the likes of Sexual Deviant (sample lyric “are you a sexual deviant / I said yes and I’m happy this way, so fucking what?”) and the exuberant and frantic Parachute Drop. Despite the fact that Le Revolution Politique’s sung in French, the intention needs no translation, its sweet dual vocal showcases Sophie Evans’ sassy tone as the perfect partner to Pete Dale’s straight-up style.

Most tracks weigh in at barely two minutes, offering an album of short and sharp melodic punk with considerable charm.

Milky Wimpshake and Martha play Empty Shop, Durham on Sunday 19th April. The band release Encore, un Effort! via Fortuna POP! On 6th April.
