Reliably informed

After a stunning gig before Christmas which saw the mighty Bong shake the foundations of Cobalt, Opal Tapes have lined up another serious proposition: Mick Harris is a bona fide legend, going back to the mid-eighties and his spell as drummer in Napalm Death (where he invented the blast beat) through a myriad of bands, solo projects and collaborations that have taken in everything from industrial metal to free jazz, techno to drum and bass and dark ambient to dub.

After a few years of apparent inactivity, Harris has revived his fearsome Fret project (a wholly appropriate 23 years after its sole release on Downwards) with an album released late last year on Karlrecords and a gig at The Cluny on Friday 9th February. It’s a reliably intense industrial techno assault that’s bound to sound immense through The Cluny’s PA. Support comes from Opal Tapes main man Basic House, who can be relied upon to explore the darker, more unsettling recesses of electronic music, and Ben Jazzfinger will be DJing in his new Britannic Gamma Lantern guise.
