If I talk about Mirela Bistran, Alex Charrington and Soonwon Hwang, you probably wouldn’t know who they were. In the near future, though, that might all change. The trio are just a small handful of the graduating artists presenting work at the Master of Fine Art’s Summer Show this year, alongside a small selection of works by those still continuing their studies in the field.

Newcastle University’s MFA is known for encouraging critical engagements and assessments of works both classic and contemporary, leading students to understand more about what makes great art. As such, when they come to creating it themselves – whether it be painting or sculpture, print or collage – the students are geared up to understand that art isn’t just about splashing paint on paper and hoping people will buy it. This year’s crop of new artists displaying works at the show will no doubt be displaying some truly dynamic and engaging works that will restore your faith in the contemporary art scene. You might even encounter a future winner of the Turner Prize.

The MFA End of Year show will run at the Hatton Gallery, Newcastle from Saturday 22nd August until Sunday 5th September.
