It’s almost 90 years since the release of sci-fi classic Metropolis, and to celebrate, there’s a rather special screening scheduled for Saturday 28th January at Newcastle Cathedral aided by support from neighbouring historic landmark Newcastle Castle.
The film will be injected with further life thanks to a live electronic soundtrack performed by Gateshead’s Old Police House Collective, it all makes for a futuristic birthday bash unlike any other. The mesmerising movie, with its dizzying depiction of a futuristic cityscape and alluring female robot, Metropolis is possibly the most famous silent film of all time. Directed by the legendary Fritz Lang, incredible production values, iconic imagery and an astounding setting pack just as much punch as they did back in 1927. The 150-minute version on show here is being screened courtesy of Eureka Entertainment. Tickets are on sale now and are already selling fast for this chance to see classic cinema in a new way.
