Reliably informed

Imagine having an artist that has produced one of the most critically acclaimed albums of the year playing in your local social club on a tiny stage with a full band in attendance. Seems unlikely, doesn’t it? Well, Welsh wizard of alt. pop Meilyr Jones is playing Westgarth Social Club in Middlesbrough on Friday 9th December to make a liar of your assumptions.

The collected music press gushed all over his album 2013, confusingly released earlier this year, praising the combination of influences ranging from classical to soul that were melded together into a collection of glorious pop creativity. Take, for example, the single Strange/Emotional that comes across like The Beautiful South covering Dexy’s Midnight Runners jamming with Deep Purple; Jones is a musical magpie of recent pop history, taking all the best shiny bits to feather his nest and singing beautifully all about it. There’s a reason why Line of Best Fit described it as one of the most exhilarating and emotional releases of the year so honestly, don’t miss out on this one.

Support comes from Newcastle’s luscious alternative folkers The Winter Hill Transmission and Boro’s self-proclaimed cute punks Plastic.
