The May Exchange is set to make a huge impression on the North East next month, inspiring art and conversation through some wonderful events starting at the end of April and all through May, spread across some of our region’s best venues. It’s all done with the aim of connecting people across different cultures through an eclectic mix of theatre, music and dance, and encouraging fresh collaborations between artists and communities.

Thursday 28th April sees the Best Of Be Festival at NPA Basement Studio Theatre, Northumbria University, a unique triple bill of theatre, dance and circus. A live performance from Ladies Of Midnight Blue is at World Head Quarters, Newcastle on Friday 29th April in a Harambee Pasadia fundraiser. The fun is taken the other side of the Tyne too, as Caedmon Hall in Gateshead welcomes GIFT for a double bill of contemporary theatre, with Castle Rock from Bristol based Massive Owl playing alongside Eggs Collective Get A Round from Manchester’s Eggs Collective; both well worth seeing.

Space Six in Newcastle hosts several events; Theatre Monkey on Wednesday 11th May is a practical workshop in theatre, with a performance workshop in artistic experimentation and exploration on Monday 16th May. For those interested in working, volunteering and studying the arts, there’s another incredible workshop at Dance City, Newcastle, as a collaborative conversation explores the creative case for equality and diversity.

It all comes to a close with the Harambee Pasadia festival, running at The Hub in Barnard Castle from Friday 27th until Monday 30th May. It’s filled with music, dance, art, food and raw African energy, and the explosion of colour and fun is the perfect way to round out all The May Exchange has to offer.

The May Exchange has events across the North East starting Thursday 28th April.
