One of the UK’s most underrated though still much loved musicians Martin Stephenson is bringing his earnest musicianship, drawing on the most eclectic of influences, to The Studio in Hartlepool on Saturday 16th July, thanks to local promoters PinDrop. Country, rockabilly, punk and jazz are just a few of the genres he draws on, so it should all make for a fascinating show.

After 30 years in the business, he’s a musician who knows exactly what he wants to do, and just how to do it, with new album California Star seeing him reunite with his band The Daintees. Playful humour and a warmth that comes through self-deprecation and honest musicality make Stephenson one of the most watchable performers around, with songs that’ll sweep you right up. There’s quite brilliant support too, in the shape of folksy americana collective Boss Caine and acoustic electric folk from Maddison’s Thread, this is a gig you’ll be talking about for a long time after, as it’s really offering up something very very special.
