Reliably informed

There are few artists out there who can say that in their career they’ve been lucky enough to work with such a diverse range of figures. Mark Lanegan, though, is one such artist, having worked with Kurt Cobain, Queens of the Stone Age, Isobel Campbell, Martina Topley Bird, Moby, Soulsavers and Melissa Auf Der Maur among many others. It’s his solo career, though, where Lanegan’s talents really shine through, a fact he’ll be making clear when he comes to Newcastle’s Riverside on Wednesday 21st January.

Lanegan’s first solo album, The Winding Sheet, came out a scary 25 years ago, but in that quarter decade in-between, he’s lost none of the bite and passion that made him into a cult figure in alt-rock. His latest record Phantom Radio has been highly praised for its forays into more synth-driven territory (he even recorded some of the drums on an iPhone app). Consistently bleak but with a brilliant songwriting ability that weaves dark narratives, Lanegan is a constant producer of white-hot, driven alt-rock that shakes you to the core.

Mark Lanegan Band will play Newcastle’s Riverside on Wednesday 21st January.
