A new project to bring multi-disciplinary artists to the North East sees Culture Lab, Newcastle and Gateshead’s The Old Police House join forces. One of the first brilliantly unique gifts this new union offers up is Malcy Duff, who brings a free comic book workshop open to the general public to Culture Lab on Thursday 21st April from 2pm until 4pm. This is then followed by a performance at The Old Police House at 7.30pm.

The workshop will be The Dog Walking Technique, a comic exercise he invented in 2009. It’s a workshop technique designed to create a piece of work in a short space of time, using mistakes and accidents in drawing and experimental approaches. A short talk, a few examples, then it’s on to crafting through the physical act of drawing, wherever the line may take you.

There’s an exhibition too, showing original artwork pages from his new comic book Jimmy Stewart.  It’s all followed by a gig at The Old Police House, his live comic The Simpsons has previously been performed in Edinburgh and Manchester and now comes to the North East. With support from artists Nicole Vivien Watson and Adam Denton, absurdist duo Acrid Lactations plus Posset and Gwilly Edmondez combining for a one-off quartet performance alongside DJs Mariam, Mark Wardlaw and Grassi.

Malcy Duff is at Culture Lab, Newcastle and The Old Police House, Gateshead on Thursday 21st April.
