Reliably informed

Lugubrious is defined in the Oxford English Dictionary as looking or sounding sad and dismal attributes that certainly could not be attributed to newly launched record label Lugubrious Audio. The name is almost certainly intentionally oxymoronic to demonstrate the labels playful idiocy, a self-professed idiot-roadshow which is set to showcase its diverse roster this month in Durham’s Empty Shop HQ.

Amongst the talent on display will be the warped electronica of Dead Friends, lead by the enigmatic frontman known only as Pruney, who adeptly cuts off-kilter beats with quite frankly bizarre samples. Taking responsibility of DJ duties will be Snake of June whose 80s-laden synth hooks are the perfect concoction for dancefloor rapture.

The label is very much in its infancy with only a handful of cassette releases to date but the night promises to demonstrate their madcap philosophy and the sheer eclecticism of their current artistry crop.

The Lugubrious Audio showcase takes place at Empty Shop, Durham on Saturday 22nd August.
