What if contemporary dance could animate museums, galleries and other creative spaces? These are the spaces where many of today’s choreographers would love to make and present their experimental work and where audiences are curious to encounter the new and unexpected.

This has been the vision and practice of Siobhan Davies Dance for over a decade, as Programme Director Lauren A Wright explains: “Siobhan Davies Dance has been at the forefront of this work since 2009 and we are thrilled to continue alongside an extraordinary generation of dance artists as they expand this territory through working closely with BALTIC and our CONTINUOUS Network partners around the country to reach new audiences.”

CONTINUOUS, a four year project to explore the relationship between contemporary dance and the visual arts, will publicly launch with its premiere at Gateshead’s BALTIC from Friday 18th-Sunday 20th October with its first commission by Lucy Suggate, who will be showcasing the world premiere of live dance installation Spirit Compass; an island and a temple of sorts, which visitors are invited to inhabit and watch the movement go by.

Lucy Suggate’s Spirit Compass: Where There Is Movement There Is Change is the first in this series of exciting collaborations bringing the best in experimental independent dance and choreography from around the UK out of the studio and into the public arena in galleries all over the country.

Lucy Suggate: Spirit Compass is at BALTIC, Gateshead from Friday 18th-Sunday 20th October
