Reliably informed

It wouldn’t quite be correct to describe Lucy Beaumont as simply self-deprecating – she’s more ‘Hull-deprecating’, with such a fondness, and a sense of self-deprecation implied in her being a part of Hull, and indeed Hull being a part of her, that Hull surely can’t stay mad at her. She speaks of her home as just that – home; as if the whole community is one big family in a Hebburn-esque sitcom. Indeed, you can almost imagine Hull-the-family watching from the side going “hah…yep” without “oi! watch it!” even crossing their collective mind.

On Wednesday 16th March Beaumont brings her debut Edinburgh show We Can Twerk It Out, the show that earned her Chortle’s Best Newcomer award in 2014, to Hilarity Bites’ comedy club night at Darlington’s Seen. An hour of autobiographical stand up, the show will consist of cultural observations and gentle, loving humour about her hometown – essentially, Lucy Beaumont doing what Lucy Beaumont does best. From her proudly thick accent to a take away menu via the story of a hen night in Blackpool, she humbly shares with her audience her hometown, and with it her world.

Lucy Beaumont is at Seen, Darlington on Wednesday 16th March.
