Few nights in the country have had the longevity that Long Live Comedy has had. For a decade, the classic room above a comedy gig has thrived, and celebrates it’s ten year anniversary in style; with a very special show at The Dog and Parrot in Newcastle on Tuesday 1st March. Featuring some of the acts who’ve held the night together over the years, it’s a comedy celebration not to be missed.

Started by a small group of comedians as somewhere to try out new material, the night has ran weekly every Tuesday, upstairs at the aforementioned Dog and Parrot. It continues to do so too, giving a stage to the newest acts, sometimes doing their very first gig, alongside seasoned pros shaping ideas for what could go on to be comedy gold.

The night itself has hosted early gigs from now spectacularly successful stand-ups like Sarah Millican, Chris Ramsey and Kai Humphries, and even once featured a surprise appearance from Reginald D. Hunter. It’s an important part of the North East comedy scene, handed down through various groups of comedians, entrusted with keeping the spirit of the night alive, one where anything can happen, and usually does.

The anniversary show will give a stage to some all time favourites who’ve played a big part in making the night what it is. It features a long awaited return to the stage for Al Dawes, the odd-ball comedy of local favourite Sean Turner, while coming fresh from his solo show at The Stand the night before is Rahul Kohli; and there’s another welcome return to comedy for Graham Oakes. It’ll all be held together by Long Live regular and hilarious comedy impressionist Cal Halbert.

It’s a great chance to celebrate a night so crucial to North East comedy, there’s also free sweets and pizza, and as ever, it’s free, so pop down to support the night, that’s supported so much of what is good about the region’s comedy.

Long Live Comedy’s 10 year anniversary special is at The Dog and Parrot, Newcastle on Tuesday 1st March.
