Did you get yourself down to Lone Wolf’s third birthday bash last year? No? Well, luckily you have another chance to sample what the one-woman powerhouse promotion machine has to offer with her latest takeover at Pop Recs.

Headlining the event are noisy, and by their own admission boozy, Yorkshire three-piece Forever Cult, who’ll be bringing their blend of classic 90s grunge with millennial British indie. Their debut EP FUXX, free to download on their Bandcamp now, showed off the super-ballsy rock that gave them their well-deserved reputation for being the new masters of the sub-two-minute track. Joining them are former Chapman Family frontman Kingsley Chapman with his latest band The Murder. Sporting a mix of heavy rhythmic drums, avant garde pianos, somehow slightly creepy romanticised strings and some seriously barbarous guitars, Chapman’s latest project is filled with atmospherics and, whisper it quietly, could well be better than The Chapman Family’s output (keep it under your hat).

Post-rock Newcastle four-piece Schultz, who are also Lone Wolf’s latest addition to a roster that already includes GoyBoy McIlroy, also join the bill. Combining the technicalities of math rock with the baritone vocals of late 80s goth and even some shoegaze elements, they’re one of the most talked-about bands on the local scene at the minute and are sure to liven up the crowd. Apache Viking, meanwhile, recently released their new EP Magic Dudes; but don’t let me describe what they’re like to you. They want you to find out what they’re all about themselves (as if you didn’t need any more encouragement to go along). Rounding off the bill are the melodic and haunting Hunting Game. Relatively new to the north east scene, the band have nevertheless made a huge impact across recent shows thanks to their math-rock tinged alt sound.

If you don’t know what to do with yourself on a Sunday or just need that little bit of extra bite to the Sabbath, then the sheer amount of noisy, sometimes intricate and thoroughly spellbinding talent on offer at Lone Wolf’s latest takeover is the perfect medicine.

The Lone Wolf Takeover takes place at Pop Recs Ltd, Sunderland on Sunday 22nd March.
