London based sextet Lola Colt – consisting of Gun, Matt, Martin, Kitty, James and Sinah – have carved a little hole for themselves in the realms of rock. With their debut album Away From the Water, they proved that, by combining all the best elements of PJ Harvey, Jefferson Airplane and the Gun Club, they could quite easily stand out from an oversaturated crowd. Indeed, their six-strong lineup has meant that they’re never far from something unique and colourful, steering far away from being one-dimensional and instead finding a home in a dark undercurrent of chemtrail guitars and pounding drums.

It’s apt, then, that the band are supported by two of the region’s finest purveyors of dark rock: Bernaccia and Kobadelta. Bernaccia’s blend of neo-psych blues rock has captivated audiences at every turn; their lyrical ventures into troubled souls and stomping rhythms provide a wonderfully unique blend of barnstorming danceability and brooding menace. Five-piece Kobadelta, meanwhile, provide a frantic and feral foray into indie, bridging the gap between the sometimes flowery and airy nature of psych and the rougher, jagged edges of heavy rock. It’s destined to be a night of bone-shattering riffs and haunting lyricism.

Lola Colt, Bernaccia and Kobadelta all play Newcastle’s Think Tank on Saturday 21st February.
