Since 2010, the NewBridge Project has been a key driving force behind experimental, contemporary art in the region. Its artist-led philosophy gives new, up-and-coming artists brilliant opportunities to improve and showcase their talents.

To end their Life In A Northern Town exhibition, which is taking place as part of the Great Exhibition of the North throughout the summer, the venue will play host (alongside Star & Shadow Cinema) to Live In A Northern Town on Friday 8th and Saturday 9th September; a programme of performances, workshops and collaborations between artists and musicians from across the North of England.

Workshops at NewBridge’s Gateshead location on Saturday daytime include what’s sure to be a fascinating insight into the genre of experimental music, with Girl Sweat Pleasure Temple Ritual Band’s Russell Gray. There’s also an opportunity to experiment with ‘Glen’ synthesisers thanks to Manchester’s sound and visual collaborators Coatic Sequence. Later that evening at the Star & Shadow Cinema, both artists will perform live, with a special appearance from Newcastle’s radgy punx Blom.

In the evening on Friday at the Star & Shadow Cinema there’s live performances from avant jazz group Ex-Easter Island Head, Newcastle’s own Blown Out and Liverpool’s vocal/drum loop project ATATAT.
