In this new, razor-sharp comedy-drama, Philip, played exceptionally by The Grand Budapest Hotel’s Jason Schwartzman, is once again an unsentimental, self-obsessed New York writer, a role familiar for anyone who knows his quirky TV comedy, Bored To Death. Philip is awaiting the publication of his sure-to-succeed second novel but feels suffocated by the crowded city, the pressures of work and his deteriorating relationship with his girlfriend, played by Mad Men’s Elizabeth Moss. He therefore grasps the opportunity when his idol, Ike Zimmerman, offers his summer house as an isolated refuge for Phillip to use to write. Here, Philip can finally get the peace and quiet he has been looking for, to focus on his favourite subject – himself. Alex Ross Perry’s latest film is set to be a heart-warming and funny tale of neuroticism and egotism that’ll make the day of any hardcore Schwartzman fans.

Listen Up Phillip comes to Tyneside Cinema, Newcaste from Friday 5th June.
