Hartlepool/Whitley Bay band Lisbon have had one heck of a year: they started it off with their debut singles, Bluelove and Rio, receiving national radio airplay. Ever since, the four-piece have gone from strength to strength.

It’s appropriate that they decided to call their EP Life is Good – it’s full of smooth synth choruses and feel-good guitars. 2014 saw them cement the foundations for a successful career, building on the solid local following they already had, with slots at festivals including T in the Park and Kendal Calling. Their summer-released Rio, full of energy and upbeat vibes (perfectly timed to coincide with the Brazil World Cup), is now just the ticket to escape the drizzly winter blues.

The four-piece will be supported at the homecoming gig by fellow local rockers Para Alta and Wake. On the subject of which, Lisbon will be joining North East heroes Little Comets on a series of dates throughout March. As the band put it themselves on Twitter, “6 years ago we were watching @littlecomets at @o2academynewc in our Topman v-necks and £5 plimsolls. Now we’re supporting them on tour!!” Good things come to those who deserve it.

Lisbon play the O2 Academy, Newcastle on Saturday 7th February.
