If you’ve ever been in London and tuned into Resonance FM on a Monday after 6.30pm then you’ve no doubt heard a distinctive American voice coming out of your radio. It’s Lewis Schaffer presenting the only dedicated show for Americans living in Nunhead, Nunhead American Radio. The show is a testament to Schaffer’s completely unique nature: there’s simply nothing quite like him on the comedy circuit at the minute. PhDs have been written about him and documentary filmmakers follow him around his home in London. How many comedians can honestly say that’s the case?

In his show Free Until Famous, which Schaffer performed twice weekly at Soho’s Source Below until 2014, the Noo Yawker tackles pretty much everything from (deep breath) Britain, America, you, his audience, his mind and comedy itself. That’s a lot to cram into 90 minutes (probably less once you include an interval…) but no doubt the indomitable talent of Schaffer is more than capable of pulling such a feat off. Currently touring the country in the run up to his Edinburgh Fringe show in August, Schaffer’s show is a mix of horror and hilarity; as no two of his shows are the same, you’re also in for a truly unique experience. Comedy fans would be fools to miss it.

Lewis Schaffer comes to the Caedmon Hall, Gateshead on Saturday 20th June.
