Stretchy-faced funnyman Lee Nelson brings his new show, Serious Joker, to Durham’s Gala Theatre on Sunday 30th April.

Simon Brodkin’s zany alter-ego is no stranger to getting himself into hot water, thanks to stunts involving celebs and sports personalities. The comedian is famed for throwing a wad of dollar bills at FIFA president Sepp Blatter during the corruption scandal over World Cup hosting, as well as handing out Nazi-insignia inscribed golf balls at Donald Trump’s golf course.

In his chav persona as Lee Nelson, Brodkin has appeared alongside the likes of comedy giants Al Murray, Jason Manford and John Bishop in his stand-up guise, but his prank-loving side is never far from the surface, as evidenced by the comedian standing for South Shields’ by-election in 2013. His comedy is typified by an unruly and often ignorant world view, but don’t let that put you off – it’s clear that Brodkin’s characters are highly intuitive, and his comedy as laugh-out-loud funny as his exceedingly naughty (and often politically-charged) pranks. His latest show promises to build on an already strong reputation as a comedian of serious skill: in other words, you’d be seriously mad to miss it.
