Reliably informed

There’s no need to scream and shout if you missed him at Newcastle City Hall last month. Lee Mack, motor-mouthed star of BBC’s Not Going Out, returns to the venue on Thursday 18th December, bringing with him his inimitable fast-witted brand of comedy.

Fans of Mack’s TV output will know exactly what to expect: witty wordplay and an enviable knack for puns. Appropriately then, his first tour in four years goes under the nifty moniker Hit the Road Mack (it rhymes with Jack, geddit?) His mastery in the art of puns crackles in his aforementioned BBC sitcom, where almost every exchange climaxes in a good old-fashioned double entendre. He’s also built up a reputation for witty banter in the subgenre of the TV panel show, most prominently as team captain on the Rob Brydon hosted Would I Lie To You? This year, he’s earned his own series: Sky1’s Duck Echoes Don’t Quack follows the QI formula of being a brainteaser that is both rib-tickling, and pub-quiz useful.

As with Not Going Out, Mack’s stand-up is straight-forward, no-nonsense and unashamedly old-fashioned. If you don’t mind that, you’re in for a gloriously daft evening out, which will (to paraphrase its theme song) have you running around with your head in a spin.

Lee Mack will perform at Newcastle City Hall on Thursday 18th December.
