Reliably informed

It’s been a bit blustery lately, meaning that we’re all a little bit tired of that nagging north wind. Or are we? If it comes in the shape of Canadian folk group Le Vent Du Nord then maybe we can welcome the change in the weather. The band, who hail from Quebec, will play at the Sage Gateshead on Sunday 18th January.

With a sound that draws on their heritage in Quebec, the four-piece play a medley of accordion, hurdy-gurdy, fiddle and guitar to bring old Canadian folk songs into the 21st Century. All of their tunes are sung in French, adding an extra, truly authentic flavour to the group (who wants to hear a traditional Quebecois tune sung in English?) Known for being explosive on stage, Le Vent Du Nord have gained a huge fan base thanks to their toe-tapping rhythms and the party atmosphere they bring with them. A chill wind? I don’t think so.
