Written and performed by West Yorkshire actor and writer Sorcha McCaffrey, Ladybones comes to Newcastle’s Alphabetti Theatre from Tuesday 18th-Friday 21st February following its UK tour and successful run at Edinburgh Fringe 2019. This one woman show is an uplifting and compelling story about OCD based on McCaffrey’s personal experience of living with the condition.

In Ladybones, archaeologist Nuala unearths a skeleton and her ordered life starts to unravel. Digging into the mystery of the bones, can she handle the chaos of what she discovers? Through Nuala, McCaffrey speaks her truth out loud and invites audience participation to help the character on her journey, reacting in the moment to their responses, so that every performance is live in the moment and created fresh each time. The music composed for the show creates a soundscape of the character’s headspace.

This is the show McCaffrey would have loved to have seen as she struggled with OCD growing up. In Ladybones, she aims to show that there is hope for recovery and there can be an upward trajectory. Whilst dealing with serious mental health issues, the mood of the piece is not dark and negative but contains many moments of light-hearted humour, displaying an immense joy alongside immense sorrow.

Ladybones is at Alphabetti Theatre, Newcastle from Tuesday 18th-Friday 21st February
