Reliably informed

No, you haven’t stepped back in time to 2007, this gig is happening at The Cluny on Saturday 15th August 2015. Those who mourned the loss of spiky rockers Kubichek! will rejoice in this one-off gig in support of The Autism Able Project, set up by a group of volunteers in South Tyneside to provide young adults with Autism and learning difficulties with opportunities to learn new skills and socialise. Also joining the bill are Minotaurs, Shields’ premier purveyors of honest, oftentimes melancholic, indie pop. Said to be in the studio working on new material, their return can’t come fast enough for this writer.

Bringing the event kicking and screaming into the current decade, Canyons present their unashamedly fuzzy pop sounds which hide a darker lyrical edge; Dark Sky Singers/Here Comes Good Sailing collaborator Doc Smith plays his atmospheric folk; minimalist songwriter Tape Tree offers up his stories about championship wrestling and life’s big questions; plus there’s a special performance from the AutismAble Singers, who are currently crowdfunding to release an album.

A top night of awesome regional musical talent, and a worthy cause to boot. Miss it and you’ll have me to deal with.

Kubichek!, Minotaurs, Canyons, Doc Smith, Tape Tree and The AutismAble Singers play The Cluny, Newcastle on Saturday 15th August.
