If you’re looking for something to do this Easter weekend, there are few better ways you could spend your Saturday 26th March, than going to The Central Bar, Gateshead and catching a quartet of bands bristling with energy and showcasing an alternative flavour beneath vibrant, intelligent songwriting.

There’s something very retro about the music on offer, the post-punk of Leeds’ Klammer is dark and tortured, with hints of something a little bit gothic while still being massively accessible.  E’Spaniel have poppier sensibilities, but slot in perfectly on a bill which features the driving, dirty bass hooks reminiscent of early The Cure records from Klammer, while E’Spaniel have the twinklier feel of later records from The Cure; their songs build around jangly guitars and delicate, beguiling vocals. The Exes provide a distinctly garage punk sound, while Rushers Of Din are a bit of a departure with a more soulful, indie sound.

While the bands on offer could easily be from another time and another place, they all produce a sound that is vital and current, and will be truly captivating live.

Klammer, E’Spaniel, The Exes and Rushers Of Din play The Central Bar, Gateshead on Saturday 26th March.
