On Friday 27th September Middlesbrough’s Westgarth Social Club hosts an interesting mix of rock and reggae, which brings together international influences and local talent. KIOKO are a soul outfit hailing from Birmingham, whose music was inspired by Caribbean dance grooves and lyricism. The Midlands has a rich history of reggae and ska musicians and KIOKO are one of the next cabs off the rank to continue the tradition.

Support comes from female fronted pop funk outfit The Lulas, who are making something of a homecoming having been born and raised in Middlesbrough themselves. Their recent single Pink Socks brought critical acclaim and saw them receive Richer Unsigned Artist of the Week accolade in early June. The band have come a long way in a short while, having only formed in October last year, but they’ve already defined their sound as laid-back summer rock. The band will form a lovely juxtaposition with the headliners; between soulful reggae and languid rock ‘n’ roll there ought to be something for everyone.
