Touring new album Astronaut Meets Appleman, prolific songwriter King Creosote plays at Sage Gateshead on Wednesday 25th January.

With many an album under his belt, and a Mercury Prize nomination for his exquisite collaboration with Jon Hopkins, the revered musician’s new record is infused with reminders of his Scottish origins. His definitive chamber rock-inflected folk is peppered with surprises, from bagpipes to haunting choral arrangements, making for another atmospheric album.

Interested in the contrast and relationship between tradition and technology, King Creosote creates an unusual combination of sounds, aiming to leave us “in a space between Heaven and Earth”. His usual unique vocal races along on up-tempo numbers such as Wake Up To This and creates a hypnotic lullaby on others, like the luscious Faux Call.

Astronaut Meets Appleman is another beautifully crafted piece of music that promises to make for an enthralling live listen. Known for his quick wit and engagement with the audience, his performance promises to be quite the musical treat.
