Shine Like Stars return kick 2016 off with a line-up that’s a credit to the strength and diversity of the North East scene for their first show of the year on Friday 5th February.

Opening proceedings will be The Purnells, whose recently released third album Black Dog Laughing was highly praised. They have become a staple of the Teesside live music scene and no strangers to the Ku Bar stage, frontman Stu Blackburn is ever the showman and their blend of ballsy, rootsy rock ‘n’ roll is definitely worth getting down early for.

Also on the bill, Cellar Door weave a Morricone-inspired post-punk web of tribal rhythms and looping psychedelic guitars; think Joy Division meets The Doors with a dash of local attitude for good measure.

The headliners are definitely one of the bands to watch this year, Newcastle’s Keep Breathing have been making more than a few waves with their chiming guitar pop, reminiscent of early Bunnymen and U2 at their most vital. Single Weather Warning should be enough to keep the cold from the Ku Bar doors.

Keep Breathing, Cellar Door and The Purnells play Ku Bar, Stockton on Friday 5th February.
