Reliably informed

They describe themselves as sounding like a  fusion of the epic nature of Echo and the Bunnymen and the anthemic atmospherics of Elbow, but since they’ve toured with bands as diverse as The Fall, The Charlatans, Temples and Public Service Broadcasting, then you know that there’s a bit more to four-piece Keep Breathing than they make out. The quartet have previously worked with producer Ed Buller – responsible for works by Suede, Pulp and Spiritualized – which has added a level of dynamism in their sound not heard in their previous incarnation, giving them a fuzzy, energising edge that comes across best in the live arena. There’s only one way to experience it to its full: in a small, sweaty room like the Head of Steam’s basement right next to the speaker.

Support comes in the form of catchy indie quartet Them Things, who are as well known for their infectious and fun live sets as their jangly, slightly unconventional approach to alt rock. Rounding off the bill are Newcastle trio Sun Dance who have had a monster 2015 so far, despite only forming earlier in the year. Their furious and accomplished demos of ferocious indie-infused rock have gained thousands of plays and positioned them as one of the most hotly tipped bands in the region.

Keep Breathing, Them Things and Sun Dance play at the Head of Steam, Newcastle on Friday 31st July.
