Performing at Newcastle’s Cobalt Studios on Friday 7th February, Jumanji are a female-fronted indie pop sextet, based in Brighton. Not unlike their board game namesake, they’re an exciting and unpredictable lot, typified by an uplifting, rhythmic indie sound.

Having initially been influenced by the likes of Catfish and the Bottlemen, Fickle Friends and Sundara Karma, they’ve since created their own interpretation of classic British indie which hinges on a tropical pop axis. Early single Constellations is lifted straight from such playbook with its catchy and infectious indie pop sound, while recent material takes a more experimental approach, as on 2018’s Alyssa (inspired by anarchic television series End of the Fucking World, according to lead vocalist Neneh Atkins) which features elongated instrumentals and harmonious six-part vocals, allowing the band to really spread their wings.

The gig also serves to celebrate promoters Pillar Artists’ birthday, and will feature mesmerising dance pop band The Pylons and Newcastle-by-way-of-London’s art-infused trio Cat Ryan.
