There are few musicians quite like Jonah Matranga, unwavering in his earnest, heartfelt musicianship and ever one to showcase a sharp sense of humour, he’s back for another jaunt around the UK, taking in two North East dates at The Studio in Hartlepool on Thursday 20th October and Think Tank in Newcastle on Monday 24th October.
While Jonah shows are guaranteed to deliver in being one of the most memorable of your gig going year, there’s also always a lot of the unexpected from the former Far, New End Original and Gratitude front man. Recognising how important his audiences are, he’s always happy to go along with a song request shyly called for, or deliver a special cover of an old favourite. There’s subtle energy to the one-man acoustic shows, drawing on tracks from a post hardcore and alt rock past; the delicate, twinkling serenades fitting alongside those, in a setlist usually decided on the fly. Sing-a-longs and shout-a-longs are a mainstay, with beautifully intelligent lyrics tenderly delivered sometimes, raucously bellowed when the passion hits on others, all through a voice that shows an honesty like few can match. If you’ve been to a Jonah Matranga show before, you know the score, if you haven’t, get set to join a very special club.
