Before starting his music career and spending a decade touring the UK as ringleader of raucous folk favourites Bellowhead, Jon Boden studied Medieval History at Durham University and was a regular attendee of singing sessions at the Colpitts Hotel. Despite holding fond memories of the city, he’s so far had surprisingly few opportunities to return, so don’t miss your chance to see one of the genre’s most respected musicians as he brings his new show to Durham’s Gala Theatre on Wednesday 16th November.
Having always had his fingers in many pies, Jon has done occasional solo gigs over the years, but nothing as ambitious as this 14 date tour, which is surely a confident statement of intent for his career plan following Bellowhead’s farewell shows in April, as he promotes the reissue of his gem of a solo album Painted Lady .
Forget any thoughts that these shows may pale in comparison to his performances with ten other musicians – playing fiddle, guitar and a whole host of other instruments, Jon is equally compelling and captivating solo, with his distinctive voice and a set comprising of his own songs, Bellowhead favourites and some interesting and unusual covers.
