Opening night for a new venue is always exciting, but throw in Johnny Lloyd, the former chief songsmith and guitarist of indie rockers Tribes, and the show at the new Think Tank Underground hots up even more. Lloyd will be heading to the fully rebranded and refurbished basement of celebrated city centre haunt, The Head of Steam on Friday 7th October, playing as part of the final weekend of his headline tour.
Performing songs from his new EP Dreamland, the dark, tortured pop on show is filled with gorgeous guitar sounds and Lloyd croons some wonderful lyrics over the sharp musicianship. The laid-back track should be a good guide to a show he’ll just slide into, with the intimate space perfect for the new singer-songwriter guise he’s performing under. With support from the punk influenced Casual Threats and the indie pop of Crying Lions, this newly redone and renamed venue starts as it means to go on.
