Joe Strummer: The Future is Unwritten, a celebration of The Clash frontman’s huge influence on both music and society before, during and after his time singing in the legendary band, comes to the Star and Shadow Cinema on Thursday 29th January. Directed by Julien Temple, the English film director who had a close personal relationship with Strummer, the film is coming to the cinema as part of the One Pot Music and Film Festival.

The festival, running until 30th January, encompasses all genres of music and their natural relationship with the moving image, and Temple’s piece on a man who was not just a talented musician and songwriter but also a mouthpiece for a generation of individuals looking for societal change, looks set to be a real highlight. The combination of Temple’s film-making credentials (he has directed movies about Glastonbury, Ray Davies, the Sex Pistols and The Kinks amongst others) and his insight into Strummer’s music, attitude, politics and his world as a whole ensured the film won Best British Documentary at the Sundance Film Festival in 2007.

Joe Strummer: The Future Is Unwritten screens at the Star and Shadow Cinema, Newcastle on Thursday 29th January.
