Darlington songwriter Jodie Nicholson unveils her debut album, Golden Hour, with a gig at The Forum on Thursday 26th September. The Hurworth native is a firm favourite on the gigging circuit, and previous work has received plaudits from BBC Tees’ Bob Fischer and 6Music’s Tom Robinson.

Gifted with a beautifully pure voice, Jodie’s piano-based arrangements have garnered comparisons to the likes of Daughter and Lucy Rose. Highlights include Crossroads, previously a BBC Tees Track of the Week, which emphasises Jodie’s plaintive vocals underpinned by a melancholic and sparse piano melody; recent single In Spring, with gentle finger-picked acoustic guitar and a haunting synth backing, depicts the pain of heartbreak and loss; while Losing Track ups the tempo somewhat, with harmony-led vocals building to a shuffling drum beat and pleasingly poppy tempo. It’s on tracks like Losing Track and Run, with its stuttering guitar and soaring vocals, that Dubstar producer Graeme Robinson’s touches can really be felt. The resulting record emanates with warm tones and delicate instrumentation, making it an immediate and compelling listen.
