Reliably informed

Sage Gateshead have really been pushing the boat out lately when it comes to fresh, contemporary artists. This month sees the effortlessly cool and perpetually modest brilliance of Joan As Police Woman perform at the venue on Wednesday 18th April.

Showcasing her new album Damned Devotion, the show promises gorgeously layered harmonies, catchy hooks and poignant words of wisdom. Joan’s new single Tell Me has been a slow-burning success, evolving into a welcome earworm due to its generous radio airplay. Known for her unique vocal tone and direct, deeply personal songwriting, Joan Wasser’s latest offering is an informed, intelligent opus. Her trademark warmth and openness remains, while she thoughtfully explores the nature of love and the human condition.

For an artist whose solo work spans six albums over a decade, Joan As Police Woman’s latest tracks are accessible, bang up to date, gritty enough to have an edge yet maintaining pop sensibilities. She’s supported by Fyfe Dangerfield, former Guillemots frontman turned unabashed heart-on-sleeve-wearing singer songwriter.
