Fancy a night of spoken word, poetry, comedy and music? Have no fear as the team behind JibbaJabba, alongside Apples and Snakes, are bringing a new season of spring fun to The Cumberland Arms and are kicking things off with a spectacular array of talent that’ll keep even the most hardened cynic entertained.

For the first event of the new season, Seaham singer-sonwriter Ani Sandwith is providing the original tunes. Fresh from recently releasing her gorgeous, piano-led EP Things We Have To Do, Ani is sure to add a good touch of warmth to the night with her tender songs and always chipper attitude. She’s followed by comedian John Scott, who first became a stand up in 1999. Since then he’s toured with acts including Ross Noble and Reginald D Hunter and has also been to the Edinburgh Fringe on numerous occasions. After being recently asked to contribute to a brand new, top secret comedy show for the BBC, Scott’s star is on the rise again, and this is a chance to see him in a much more intimate venue.

Spoken word artist Kevin P Gilday is gearing up to unleash his latest show The Man Who Loved Beer next week. Until then, he’s warming up with his usual array of poetry and writings on a variety of topics. The two-time Scottish National Slam finalist is always fascinating and captivating live.

Headlining the night, courtesy of Apples and Snakes, is writer and performer Rosie Garland. Born in London to a runaway teenager, Garland has had an unusual life, singing in a post-punk goth band, performing as her alter ego Rosie Lugosi the Vampire Queen, being a cabaret chanteuse and touring with the Subversive Stitch exhibition in the 90s. Her works have been widely anthologized and her debut novel The Palace of Curiosities won Mslexia’s Novel Competition in 2012. Is there anything Garland can’t do? I guess you’ll have to turn up to find out.

JibbaJabba, featuring Rosie Garland, takes place at The Cumberland Arms, Newcastle on Thursday 26th March.
