Reliably informed

Legendary New York singer-songwriter Jeffrey Lewis brings his quirky, leftfield style of folk music to Newcastle’s Star & Shadow Cinema on Tuesday 18th June. Lewis has been a part of the ambiguous anti-folk scene since the 1990’s, where he was able to master his unique brand of complex yet witty lyricism, along with his trademark off-kilter vocal delivery. His music seems to sit somewhere between the realms of punk and folk, but with a warped observational touch that only adds to his refreshing musical palette. He’s a real one-off artist who works in music and graphic art, and over the years has cemented himself as one of the most impressive raw talents working in the US today.

Jeffrey will be joined by his backing band Los Bolts, who are made up of regular members Heather Wagner on drums and Caitlin Gray on bass. Although they’re no strangers to the North East, this will be an excellent opportunity to see Lewis in a highly sympathetic venue and, with promoters Portions for Foxes behind the scenes, suitably impressive local support comes from new punks Fast Blood and Glaswegian songwriter Benjamin Belinska, making for a cracking line-up.
