Reliably informed

Musician and all-round polymath Jay Moussa-Mann sees in the month with the release of her latest album, Little Deaths. Is it a concept record? I’m kind of thinking it is, as the subject matter is all based around the theme of death in one way or another. Hot on the heels of the release of her debut feature film Ruth The Musical (released earlier in 2019), Little Deaths takes on the weighty subjects of actual death; the end of ideas and values, and the decease of identity – all with Moussa-Mann’s typically melodic touch.

Born in Stockton, raised in Turkey, and now a firm fixture on Teesside, Jay expands on her earlier work with Little Deaths. The singer-songwriter complements her stunning other-worldly balladry with samples galore, ably evidenced on lead single Evil Cassette Tape which utilises static analogue hiss reimagined as beats, before being drenched in strings and piano. No wonder then, that it’s received plays on BBC Introducing and BBC 6Music already.

Little Deaths is released on all digital platforms on 6th October and you can try before you buy by checking out her live show at Middlesbrough’s Twisterella festival on Saturday 12th October.
